COSCA
Certificate in Counselling Skills

This is an experiential course with delivery including group activities, media, skills practice and written text. While this course does not lead to a qualification suitable for practicing counselling, it can assist you in your next step to further study in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Pyschotherapy

S.M.I.L.E. Counselling & Training have set this Diploma with the aim to provide a solid foundation in the integrative approach to counselling practice. There are many counselling modalities available, however some people attending therapy are unaware of the differing modalities, and as such may not receive what is best suited to their personality, or indeed to the uniqueness of their presenting issues. At S.M.I.L.E. we train our diploma students to be proficient in the practice of several modalities with the ultimate aim being that our students on placement, or graduates, can adapt their counselling/psychotherapy practice to meet with the needs of their clients.

Train the Trainer

This Unit has been designed as an initial qualification for those with limited or no prior experience of planning and delivering training. It is intended for candidates with vocational expertise or subject knowledge whose job role includes the training of others in small group settings and in work related learning contexts. It is also suitable for those who aspire to a training role, or who expect to have some responsibility for training as part of a future job role. You do not require any specific qualifications prior to starting, but you should have good communication skills and command a level of English that will allow effective learning of all of the Unit Outcomes. You should be knowledgeable and experienced in the subject area(s) that you plan to deliver and possess a genuine desire to share this knowledge and develop your skills in the planning and delivery of training.

Counselling Children and Young People Diploma Level 11

Our 'Counselling Children and Young People' module is a stand-alone qualification. At present the module is integrated into the body of our Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy Working with CYP and Adults and will continue to be delivered as part of our diploma. However, due to the ongoing need in Scotland for CYP therapists we plan to deliver this module as a stand-alone level 11, 'Certificate in Counselling Children and Young People.' MODULE TITLES: ETHICS, ASSESSMENT, SAFEGUARDING and SAFE AND COMPETENT PRACTICE. Establishing the Therapeutic Alliance and Beginning Counselling. Therapeutic Skills in Middles and Endings.

WHAT OUR COURSE PARTICIPANTS SAY

We value all feedback and are pleased to show you some of the wonderful things our participants have said about us!

Diploma Graduate

“Really enjoyed the course. Good content that whilst hard hitting, was delivered sensitively. Good balance of input, participation and activities. Both trainers worked well together.“

COSCA Certificate

“I felt the content was very full. I was pleased that I learnt new things (because I have already had general trauma informed training, but this was so much more). It was never boring – I felt fully engaged in the presentation throughout the day.”

ASIST

“Andy and SMILE are great at giving space for questions, explaining in a digestible way and providing experiential examples. I always leave with my head buzzing with new knowledge and have such a high appreciation for all the time, effort, skill and years of experience poured into the materials. Thank you!”

ASIST

“Has given me a better insight in to the area of counselling and will use these skills in my work place. The tutors have been supportive throughout all modules and the knowledge gained will be helpful in the future”

Diploma

“I’m always really grateful for how neurodiverse aware SMILE and the tutors are. I forget just how much until I spend spaces in professional areas which are not. I’m always grateful for the micro breaks and freedom to move.”

MWAH

“The resources, real life discussions and impactful videos provided valuable insights along with recognising the importance of self care. I now have a deeper understanding of mental wellbeing and health, in both professional and personal contexts which is crucial for creating a supportive environment for the challenges faced by both our learners and our staff.”
